4th November 2018:

Traditional farmhouse bed and breakfast - beautiful large rooms, comfy beds, handy ensuite bathrooms. And our hostess was so kind with recommending routes to take us south that would give us a good introduction to Ary and Galloway.

We were warmly welcomed on arrival and served hot drinks and shortbread. Our hosts were very helpful and accommodating and considerate where our dog was concerned giving advice on walks available. There were menus available for the two nearest restaurants. It was a very quiet and peaceful place to stay but had the convenience of an A road next to the property. We were sorry not to be staying longer.

18th September 2018:

The room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of space. Quite location, easy to find just of the main road. We were greeted on arrival and served tea and homemade shortbread in the living room. Joyce was a brilliant hostess, giving us information on where to eat on a evening and the location of attractions to visit near by. Breakfast was cooked and served to perfection and there was plenty of choice too. Nothing was too much trouble.

Tips:

The Holly Bush Inn was a great place to eat, with lots of great meals to choose from. This was just a few minutes up the road from the farm. We visited Culzean Castle which was a wonderful place to see.

Enjoyable relaxing stay where the owner makes you feel so welcome & looks after you during your stay. The breakfast was so fresh & luvly the next morning. The farmhouse is very spacious & clean with good parking space.

Tips:

Remember your wellies as you can go for a luvly walk around the farm where you will get good freshair & views of the local countryside. There is also a good restaurant about 10mins drive from the B&B with a wide selection of food to choose from with great views from the back.

As a single parent travelling north with 3 children, this lovely farmhouse was the perfect stay for the night. We was greeted with a genuine smile and shown to a nice, bright and spacious room with a very nice bathroom with a large bathtub. The value for money was unbalanced to the loss of Smithston in my opinion. It should have cost more for what we experienced. The breakfast was really nice too and set us up for the journey ahead.

Tips:

Located just outside Ayr, a Google search will find plenty do to in the city. There was a local spar and a pub that serves food a short distance away.

Lovely and cosy, and very spacious room ..Joyce was a really friendly host, lovely and clean, The breakfast was excellent.. a Big Plus for me was the place was dog friendly as I was traveling from Cheshire to the Isle of Skye with my very lively Springer Spaniel..

Tips:

I had my evening meal at the Holly Bush Inn... about 1and half miles away .. This was recommended by Joyce at The Smithson Farm who had a menu so it gave some idea of price and what food was on offer..I had a couple of pints and The Ayrshire Belly Pork excellent This was Dog friendly and the staff all made a fuss of my Hyper Hound... service was great and reasonably ... starter , main and a couple of beers for under £20.. well worth it ..

10/10 for the cleanliness of the whole property, and also for the lovely breakfast. A warm welcome and excellent service. Very spacious rooms and plenty of hangers in the wardrobe.

Tips:

There are mirrors in the room but if you need to see the back of your hair when styling I would suggest you bring a small mirror. Also if you need WIFI I would speak to Mrs Bothwell as there isn't a code to use in the room. We used our phones as hot spots etc. Not too far from Ayr but worth the travel as it is lovely and quiet for a peaceful nights sleep. Lots of choice with the breakfast even pancakes and haggis on the menu. Lots of tea and coffee too. Best breakfast I have had in a B&B.

13th October 2016:

We had a great two nights stay at the Smithston in Oct 2016. The room was big and bright, clean and spacious, the host was help and gave us advice and lent us map on where to go, and even cautioned us about driving carefully, and Joyce's breakfast was super. Beds are comfortable. Only slight inconvenience was that the shower area is a little tight for my husband who's tall. Overall great stay and highly recommended.

Tips:

Definitely have dinner at the Hollybush Inn a few minutes drive away! The farmhouse is on the right side of the road when driving in from Glasgow on the A77. The road is fast and the sign not so obvious (esp at night) so got to keep an eye out for it once you are near.

Wonderfully friendly hosts. Impressed by the spread of check-in AND breakfast-times offered (I wonder when they sleep!) and very accommodating to our odd schedule. My mum, who was travelling with me, said it was the only place on our trip so far (of 4 venues) where she got a good night's sleep.

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights last weekend and it couldn't have been anymore perfect. We stayed here as we were visiting the Scottish dark sky observatory and found the location great for this, it was also a great location for visiting Galloway forest and Ayr. The owner of the B and B was lovely and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, even brought a vase for the rose she noticed I had propped up in a glass of water! Breakfast was lovely, room was very spacious and cozy and the bathroom was well kept and clean, what more could you ask for?! I would definitely stay again :).

24th December 2015:

I came up to Smithston Farm for a break from the bustle of working life. After 4 nights I left fully refreshed and relaxed after staying in the most wonderful place I have ever stayed. It was home from home, big comfortable and very very clean rooms. Warm, cosy and welcoming. The rooms had everything we needed and everything was refreshed every morning. Free wifi in all rooms. We visited excellent places round such as Loch Doon and the electric brae and in the evening we used the lounge and played family games, something we haven't done in ages. Breakfast was amazing, including such delights as haggis and pancakes with maple syrup along with the usual cooked breakfast. We were welcomed as if we were part of the family and the kind generous hospitality was wonderful. I wished we could have stayed longer. Happy memories which we will have again with a stay at Smithston Farmhouse.

Tips:

A walk/drive round Loch Doon is absolutely beautiful with wonderful wildlife and beautiful birds. The scenery is stunning. The Electric Brae is an amazing thing to see, your car defies gravity and rolls up the hill! Just be careful of other cars coming round the corner! Beautiful beaches and castles to visit. Hollybush Inn is well worth visiting for a meal or go into Ayr for more restaurants and pubs.

Brilliant! We stumbled upon Smithston Farmhouse in desperate search for accommodation when all of Scotland seemed fully booked due to a football match. And what a find it was! Even though we booked only an hour or so in advance and stayed for only a single night, we were welcomed like we were part of the family. On top of that, we were given the best suite there was, even though we had booked the simplest room. In the morning our stay finished off with a tasty full breakfast cooked to order. I wish we could have stayed longer to properly enjoy the farm and the wonderful countryside.

3rd August 2014:

Lovely friendly welcome, excellent breakfast, comfortable accommodation. Obviously the bathroom is dated but we can understand that it would not necessarily be economical to replace, and for a couple of nights it was fine.

Tips:

Good evening meal at The Hollybush. Sunset over Arran from the seafront at Ayr. Lots of free parking around Ayr and easy train journey to Glasgow

Very warm friendly and family oriented place suitable for singles, couples or family with children.

Tips:

It is a wonderful rural venue which will put you in touch with nature. You can go down the river and watch the day go by while enjoying the tranquility of nature it self. Staff there are always keen to give you a better guide.

25th June 2014:

This was the 1st place we stayed on our 10-day tour of Scotland, so stayed in several B&B's and inns. This was by far the best place we stayed. While most of the others were lovely, the home, surroundings, and especially the hostess, were absolutely excellent. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone. Thank you for such a lovely time. The personal touches meant so much. Appreciate everything!
