Very quiet, clean, nicely decorated, comfortable accommodations, reasonably priced. Generous multicourse breakfast. The house is well lit and windows bring in the daylight, very cheerful - your spacious bright front hall feels so welcoming. This is one of the nicest places we have stayed in our travels, and we want to return.

Tips:

My favored places to dine in Girvan were Greggs, Tartans & Tweeds and Yasmins. TOFS and McColls are just a few blocks away for groceries and sundries, also the laundry is nearby. It was so easy to take the train to Glasgow, Edinburgh and not bother with driving.

I booked the Merchant House as a present for my daughter and her partner. When I met up with Gaby and Jamie the following day they sang the praises of Kieth and Lynn and said they were made to feel so welcome and the home baking was amazing.I am sure they will be back and certainly will be recommending the Merchant House.

Tips:

The folk festival is coming up soon so maybe an idea.

I have nothing but respect for Lynn & Keith, to be welcomed into their home, introduced to the other Guests & made to feel like you are in your own home. The best B & B we have stayed, in the Girvan area, far better than the rest, & believe me we have done them all.

Tips:

Very handy to the town, restaurants & the beach. Lynn & Keith very well versed in the attractions available.

Merchant House is a fantastic B&B to stay in. The food is wonderful along large and very comfortable bedrooms. It is extremely useful to have both TV and internet available in each of the rooms. Keith and Lynns are very friendly and welcoming hosts. This is one of the best B&B I have stayed in and much better than many of the hotels in the area. I would thoroughly recommend anyone staying in the area to use Merchant House

Couldn't have been better. Beautiful accommodation in a lovely home. The owners were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Home made cakes on arrival, fantastic breakfasts with home made bread and jams. Locally sourced bacon, free range eggs-need I go on. Highly recommended and we would certainly return for another stay.

Tips:

'The vaults' was a good local restaurant within walking distance and very reasonably priced. Culzain castle was a must and we enjoyed a rail trip down to Stranraer.

Lynn and Keith were such lovely hosts who went over and above in everything. Really nice room, great breakfast (including full veggie), and it was very nice to be welcomed on arrival with homemade cake and a hot drink after a long journey. The view across to the Ailsa Craig at sunset was gorgeous. We will definitely stay again.

Tips:

Yasmin's Indian restaurant in Girvan is lovely. Fresh tasting food and lots of choice. Great for veggies and meat eaters. Take your own wine/ beer.

The only problem I have with this review- I can't put in "by far exceeds excellent". Warm welcome. Cooked breakfast even for the dog. And all three of us licked our lips for hours afterwards. It is sooooo delicious. Bedroom is a treat to look at, fit for a king wit a magnificent four poster bed. Bathroom is impeccable and beautiful. The most amazing thing is that so much of the food is baked at Merchant House. And (needles to say) it is super delicious. We were sad to go. Would have loved to stay longer. Would love to come back... wish this place was not so far away from Munich.

1st June 2016:

The hosts at the merchant house make you very welcome, anything you need you just have to ask and they are more than willing to provide it. The room we had was lovely and clean the bed was so comfortable and we had a good nights sleep every night. Breakfast was really good and there was a good selection from fresh fruit, cereal, juices, cooked breakfast they would cook what ever you wanted we opted for scrambled egg instead of the fry up one morning. The view from the main dining room was spectacular looking out to sea and the local land mark of Ailsa Craig they are also pet friendly. While we were there they had a steady stream of people staying. We had home made biscuits in our room every day, coffee machine was topped up every day but if you prefer tea just ask for a kettle and they will provide it with milk and sugar. We would definately stay here again the host picked us up from the station when we arrived and also dropped us off at the station on the day that we left nothing is too much trouble. We had the garden room on the ground floor which is ideal if you have a disability. Highly recommend it.

Tips:

We ate at Flynns Boatyard who have a beer garden which over looks the harbour food was lovely also recommend the Vault restaurant. If you want peace and quiet with fresh air give it a go they are building a new swimming pool, there is enough shops, and other pubs there is the harbour bar where you can organise a boat trip to Ailsa Craig,if you have a car then you can go and travel to all the other nearby villages beautiful scenery we loved it

Top storey, 'Hummingbird suite', excellent for those who can treat the climb as pleasant exercise--spacious, thick-carpeted, solid & turned/carved wooden-railed staircase. Open coal fire in own floor sitting room a treat. A cable? outside that seaward window, bumping in strong February wind on our evening can doubtless be attended, unless it belongs to neighbour. Outstanding for welcome, space and quality of food.
