Cordelia was an amazing host. It's worth staying here just to meet her. She made a delicious dinner and dessert that we'll never forget. The room was clean and tidy. The bathroom small but functional. The grounds around her property were beautiful.

7th June 2018:

A very peaceful location in ‘dark skies’ park, very accessible to those crossing on the Larne ferries. But note it is quite a way from the main road. Great attention to detail is paid by the friendly host. Breakfasts look lovely - we had perfectly boiled eggs. For the evening of arrival we had ordered a ‘platter’ of mixed meats, cheeses and breads. It was a feast, quite superb! (Bring your own wine.) Beautifully made crafts to buy, host is as good a needlewoman as a host!

Good evening and thank you for taking the time to review. I'm very glad that you enjoyed your Platter and breakfast and yes, sadly, I'm just a bit addicted to sewing and crafting and I also ran courses for locals and guests. Cordelia

We found Balkissock Lodge so comfortable, and more importantly, so friendly. It certainly was home from home. The platter Cordelia made us was absolutely delicious and we still talk about it, and the breakfast, especially the blueberry pancakes...wow, what a start to the day!

Tips:

We took Cordelia's advice about an evening meal which is to eat before you get there or take her up on her offer to make a platter, this saves you having to go out again as the Lodge is a little way away from eating establishments. And anyway, the platters are amazing!

Thank you for taking the time to review and for rating cleanliness, facilities and service/staff 5/5. We are a rural B&B in the heart of the Ayrshire countryside which I realise is not ideally located for all but it does make for a quiet 'get away from it all' experience. We hope to see you again some day. Cordelia

Cordelia and Howard provide the most generous and warm welcome imaginable. All the little extra touches make Balkissock Lodge seem like home. The food is amazing! It is the sort of place that you go back again to time and time again. Even though we arrived late on the first night because of traffic problems, there was a cup of tea and cake waiting for us!

Tips:

The views of the west coast are fabulous. We ate twice in Souters Inn, about 15 miles away. The food was very good on both occasions, the service terrible on the second occasion. Do visit Culzean Castle and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.

You really have to stay here to understand all the other lovely reviews... It is not possible to fault this bandb. In fact we can't sing it's praises enough. It's not high tech, simply the best Scottish hospitality you will find, not to mention the amazing food

Tips:

You truly feel you have landed in the middle of nowhere finding this place, along a single track road. We were amazed at the little farmhouses and dwellings that we had no idea were there. Peace and quiet.. heaven .

A credit to tourism. More than happy to recommend with confidence and have no hesitation in deservedly awarding them 5 stars

Tips:

Unfortunately we were hampered with rain and sea fret but Balkissock Lodge has an excellent folder which is even better than visiting Tourist Information, and they should also be very proud of their personal knowledge. We dined twice at Souters Inn and can recommend.

9th July 2016:

Comfortable, peaceful and very welcoming! We had stayed before and were very glad to be able to return. Howard and Cordelia look after their guests exceptionally well. The rooms and lounge are comfortable and breakfast is amazing!! We booked suppers as the Lodge is rather far from other options and again they were superb with too much to eat!! We shall be back.

Tips:

Book suppers ahead with Cordelia and relax and enjoy. Bring your own wine and corkscrews are available. Castle Kennedy Gardens are excellent and Portpatrick and the Mull of Galloway worth exploring. So is Wigtown for secondhand books and Whithorn for the site of the first Christian settlement in Scotland. The landscape in Ayrshire and Galloway is different and the whole area is relaxing.

Lovely location but may be too isolated for some. Comfortable, and cosy room. Excellent food and top class hospitality.

Tips:

Pub in Ballantrae serves decent (and plentiful) 'pub' food. Yasmins Indian restaurant in Girvan, recommended. Drive the A77 coast road for stunning views of Ailsa Craig, Arran and Kintyre.

Thank you for taking the time to review. Balkissock's remoteness has appealed to travellers over the years but does take some getting used to if you're not used to the darkness and silence of the Ayrshire countryside. We hope to see you again one day. Cordelia
